Flower Walk, Costa Rica

In 2011, Jiménez Deredia placed the monumental marble sculpture "Arraigo" in his hometown of Heredia, Costa Rica. "Arraigo" is a monumental sculpture created from a 50-ton block of marble. From the white Carrara stone emerges a seated woman looking far into the future, her hands rooted to a sphere: a symbol of Costa Rican cultural identity. This work was exhibited in the summer of 2006 at the entrance to the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy, and in front of the Colosseum during the major exhibition "Deredia to Rome" in 2009.

Thus, in January 2011, the Paseo de las Flores Shopping Center in Heredia decided to place Deredia's monumental sculpture within its facilities as a tribute to his work and to the city where he was born, with the desire to offer visitors the opportunity to share in the enthusiasm that art brings to life.
