The unexpected encounter between Costa Rican sculptor Jorge Jiménez Deredia and ecohistory—a research method used at the University of Pisa for several decades—is the subject of this article. Ecohistory, that is, the history of "inhabitation," allows us to study the civilization of all people, including civilizations defined as "without history" but which have in fact been forgotten by official history. For this reason, the "Route of Peace" project can be considered ecohistory because it studies and incorporates the ancient cultures of the American continent from a contemporary perspective.

JIMÉNEZ DEREDIA EN LA BASÍLICA DE SAN PEDRO EN VATICANO

On the occasion of the inauguration of the statue of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, commissioned from Deredia by the Fabrica di San Pietro in the Vatican, a book was published illustrating the project's development and reconstructing the saint's life. The white Carrara marble sculpture is located in one of the external niches designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti for Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and represents the first work by a non-European artist placed on this site of exceptional historical, artistic, and religious value.
